Important Spokane City Council Hearing on Real-Estate Issues

Hello WLA Members:

Please see the below scheduled meeting for the Spokane City Council that will be having a roundtable discussion on Tuesday, September 10 at 5:30 p.m. at Central Library (906 W. Main Avenue, Spokane, WA 99201) dealing with a new Spokane homelessness ordinance.

The Spokane City Council has put this issue on hold and are holding in-person roundtable discussions.

We are getting feedback that the Washington Business Properties Association (WBPA) is misinforming the public about what these ordinances are purported to do.  In other words, they are stating that WBPA is misinforming the public.

Many thanks.

Spokane City Council plans roundtable discussions to combat misinformation on new homeless ordinance

By:

Description: SPOKANE, Wash. — A new initiative put forth by Spokane City Council is aimed at combatting misinformation and helping the community better understand different proposals. In August, an ordinance known as “The Homeless Bill of Rights”, aimed at protecting homeless people from discrimination when seeking jobs and housing, was deferred. “We had received a lot of emails with misinformation ads running in the paper about this homeless ordinance,” said Spokane City Councilmember Lili Navarrete. Lili said one ad, paid for by the Washington Business Property Association, spread misinformation about the ordinance. To set the record straight, City Council President, Betsy Wilkerson, announced on Thursday monthly roundtable discussions, open to the community, to help better understand what the ordinance entails. Gavin Cooley, CEO of Spokane Business Association, said the roundtables will help businesses engage in dialogue and better understand what is being proposed. “We sometimes assume the worst, so we need to make sure we understand what is actually being proposed before we say no,” said Cooley. The first roundtable will take place on September 10 at Central Library, 906 W. Main Avenue, at 5:30 p.m. PREVIOUS COVERAGE: Spokane ordinance to help homeless deferred, facing uncertain future vote COPYRIGHT 2024 BY KXLY. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.
