Dear WLA Members:
I want to make you aware that Governor Bob Ferguson has declared a statewide emergency in response to major flooding affecting multiple regions across Washington.
The declaration enables the state to request federal assistance and unlock additional resources for life and safety measures. The Governor is submitting an expedited emergency declaration request to the federal government, which would allow faster access to federal response and recovery support.
Key points from the announcement include:
- The situation is serious, and conditions may worsen over the next several days.
- Washingtonians are urged to closely follow local emergency alerts and comply with evacuation orders when issued.
- The National Guard has been activated, and the state is coordinating with county and tribal governments and federal agencies including FEMA, the National Weather Service and the Army Corps of Engineers.
- The Governor will be visiting impacted communities in the coming days.
For those with staff or operations in affected areas, please monitor conditions regularly and review your emergency procedures.
